Woman Attacked by Pack of 25 Great Danes in California
In August of 2024, the San Francisco Chronicle reported that a woman had lost her life in California after being mauled to death by a pack of 25 Great Danes. Known as one of the largest dog breeds in the world, untrained Great Danes pose a serious threat individually. In a pack of 25, however, the chances of even a strong human surviving are relatively slim.
Local authorities say that they were aware of the dog pack running wild in the area before the attack occurred. The woman reportedly ran into the animals in a highly remote area while walking down a trail, and it is not exactly clear how she passed. However, an autopsy confirmed that she had been bitten numerous times by domestic dogs – ruling out the possibility of a wild animal attack.
After becoming aware of this fatality, local deputies and detectives spent close to 24 hours capturing the Great Danes. Their fate is unknown as of this writing, although they have yet to be euthanized. Although it is easy to blame the animals, there are still numerous unanswered questions about the owner.
According to local residents, this pack of Great Danes has been a constant menace for years. Neighbors say that authorities were slow to react despite many people complaining about close calls with the dogs. One accused officials of “[Waiting] until someone gets killed by those dogs.”
Despite the fact that locals have been aware of this issue for years, there is no word on the identity of the owner. No criminal charges have been filed, and officials are continuing to investigate. A dog bite lawyer could potentially help the grieving family pursue justice and compensation.
